/ANSA) – NAPLES – Cantieri Palumbo of Naples has announced that it has signed an agreement with the Neapolitan shipping group Marnavi, headed by Domenico Ievoli, for the construction of two chemical tankers plus an option for two more.
Each of the vessels intended for transporting chemical products will have a tonnage of 7,500 tons, a length of 106 meters, and a width of 19 meters.
”Thanks to this first important new construction order acquired by Palumbo – a note states – highly sophisticated vessels will be built at the former Smeb shipyards in the port of Messina because, given their intended use, the tanks of the chemical tankers must all be constructed of stainless steel. The former Smeb shipyard has therefore returned to full operation.”
Just over 45 days after being awarded the tender for the concession of the area and the dry dock, Cantieri Palumbo spa of Naples – which won the bid – has already hired – the statement notes – 32 employees compared to the 25 planned in the investment plan.
”To restore operations, the Neapolitan naval company has already made substantial investments necessitated by the dilapidation of the site after three years of abandonment and has acquired and completed three orders. In fact, three vessels entered the repair dock in just a few days: an MSC cruise ship, a Romeo group bulk carrier, and a Petrolmar bitumen tanker.”
