Mn Rec-Oil ‘IEVOLECO’ – Support and debunkering operations from a fishing vessel run aground in Torre Pali (Lecce)

As part of hydrocarbon pollution prevention activities and under instructions from the Ministry of Environment / Castalia S.c.p.A., from January 27 to 30, our rec-oil unit ‘Ievoleco’ assisted in the recovery of fuel and polluting mixtures/materials from a foreign-flagged fishing vessel – used for illegal immigration offenses – which had run aground in the previous days on a shallow seabed off the locality of Torre Pali in the municipality of Salvi (Le).

The debunkering and polluting materials recovery operations were supervised by the Port Authority of Gallipoli, assisted by our unit Ievoleco and the provincial Fire Brigade command of Lecce.

The successful outcome of the operations led to the recovery of approximately 5,800 liters of fuels/emulsions which were loaded and segregated, for subsequent disposal, in the rec-oil tanks of our unit Ievoleco.
Various storage batteries and depleted gas cylinders were also recovered, all potentially polluting materials for the environment.
