From June 25 to 28, our recoil unit S/V ‘IEVOLI SHUTTLE’ carried out a simultaneous operation for the prevention of oil pollution and, assisted by a team of highly specialized divers, the recovery of fuel and lubricating oils contained in the tanks of the fishing vessel ‘Bora Bora’, a unit that ran aground and subsequently sank on June 12 along the cliffs of Cala Giunchitelli—waters within the Marine Protected Area of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park—on the island of Montecristo (Portoferraio).
The successful outcome of the operation brought an end to the state of environmental emergency that had been declared by the Authorities of the Tuscan Archipelago following the sinking.
